Blogging drought. I will have to give the highlights of the entire month of March. Working backwards to help my memory.
1) UK just had daylightsaving time so we are back to a 6 hrs difference for Central time and 5 hrs Eastern. Unfortunately my to-do list for today didn't get one hour shorter.
2) My little sister turned 21 years old?!
3) A friend just moved to London which is exciting. One of my very first PwC friends as an intern in Milwaukee joined my exact same department in London. Small world. I introduced her to a bunch of our friends here on Friday night and we went out to a nice Japanese restaurant and ate outside! The weather is turning, but mid way through we were all quite cold. My friend was talking about the blog she also started and how she was going to write twice a week. :)
4) I was supposed to be in France this weekend to visit a friend but I bought the ticket many moons ago and since then she got an offer to go back to Africa for a second gig with the Peace Corp (only 5 months this time), which is exciting. I could have still gone and hemmed and hawed about taking a three day trip out of the country by myself, but 1) I really like being with people all the time 2) couldn't find an economical/but not dirty/unsafe places to stay when I decided to start looking a couple weeks out 3) needed to work on Friday anyways (you are not surprised! :))
5) Last weekend a couple of girlfriends and I went on a Sunday market crawl, I didn't even realise there were markets on Sundays (apparently 5). It was one of the first gorgeous sunny weekend days of early Spring and we just watched from the Petticoat market, to the Old Spitafields Market, to the Sunday Up Market, to the Bricklane Market to the Columbia Flower market all the while stuuuuuffing our faces with ethnic food being cooked in front of you at stand after stand. I enjoyed some cuisine from the rainforest. Not sure what country the equated to but it was very bright and good presentation of the food. The food itself was so so and too many vegetables for my liking :) Basically a wonderful day wondering around complete with the best fried rice ever and cupcakes.
6) March Madness. I didn't realise how much I missed getting to see this college basketball season! We caught up last weekend thanks to cbssports.com and watched game after game. Didn't get to see the Marquette victories due to the time difference and another game was on at the one American sportsbar that we go to, but did see the UNC loss. That was not so good, so going to focus on the amazing feat of making it to the Sweet Sixteen as a #11 seed :)
7) Haven't done any weekend trips in March...now looking back on March 27th where did March disappear to?! I DID go to the US for a week. Waterbury, CT was unfortunately a town that has come and gone. Some beautiful old city building that reminded me of Europe more than the US but basically a shell of an old downtown with lots of vacancies and a little run down. Just being in the US after seven months was cool. Just being in the comfort of the home country, barely caring that you entered the country because you have a US passport, the accents, the unbelievably friendly customer service (it seems oddly over the top when you've been away for a while). Was too far to visit Chicago and I was given two days notice on the trip itself, but I still got to see a couple of friends! Alison and William Weber drove down New Haven, CT and we had a nice night catching up and eating American style sushi (finally!!!) and visited a great American beer bar complete with chocolate cake. It was also wonderful being in a US time zone and getting caught up with friends through during the week phone calls. Loved it.
8) My trip home to Chicago for the summer is booked! I CAN'T WAIT! Arriving Thursday, June 9th and staying in the Chicago area through Wednesday, June 15th. Need to plan things with everyone! Then heading to MN for Beth's wedding and flying out of MN. I think ten months is a little long to not go home, but I have a very busy next two months at work complete with visiting 5 countries so I am confident it will go by fast. :)
Cheers,
Michelle
