Word of warning: There is serious pick pocketing here. One of my co-workers asked me if it happened a lot in the US and I said NO! Maybe your everyday Marquette mugging but not where if you don't have you hand on your belonging at all times does it mean someone is going to take your phone.
Cases since we've been here:
1. Mum Voss on the tube
2. Colleen
3. Dutch Michelle
4. Girl at Jim's school
5. PwC girl I met last weekend
6. Dude sitting in the Sherlock Holmes Hotel last night
Afer the yummy potluck dinner party at our friends' last weekend we went out to a club and one of the girls we were with started dancing with this random guy. Whatever and just having a good time. After he left she realised her phone was missing out of her front pocket.
Last night, I was walking home from the tube and glanced through the front window of the Sherlock Holmes Hotel and oh look Jim is sitting in the bar watching the Chelsea game. Haha, so I joined him for the last 13 minutes. To set the scene this is a classy hotel with a bar in the front that we pop into sometimes because there is a big TV for games. It is very relaxed and nice setting, not hugely crowded. A guy walks and trying to sell roses to the table of two guys sitting next to us. People trying to sell flowers is common in Europe but a little strange that this guy was hassling a table of two guys with them. When they get the seller to leave, the one friend says to the other friend jokingly is all your stuff still there as he had his phone, belongings out of the table. Sure enough the Blackberry was there but the I-Phone was gone. Ridiculous. We weren't even at a bar or on the tube. I am uber cautious but with the level of these pick pocketers it will probably happen at some point. Luckily my £4 pay as you go phone is not a hot commodity. :)
